Additionally, the City Council is looking into expanding the spay and neuter programs to help reduce the number of unwanted litters and prevent overpopulation at the shelters.
“We need to address the root of the problem, which is the overpopulation of animals,” Park said. “By expanding our spay and neuter programs, we can prevent more animals from ending up in the shelters in the first place.”
While the temporary moratorium on dog breeding permits is a step in the right direction, Hernandez and Park both agree that there is still more work to be done to clear the shelters and ensure that every animal has a loving home.
“Our animals need partners on this council,” Hernandez said. “We need to continue working together to find solutions that will benefit both the animals and our community as a whole.”
With their shared love for animals and dedication to improving the conditions at the city’s shelters, Councilmembers Hernandez and Park are proving that even in the midst of differing opinions on policy issues, they can come together to make a positive impact on the lives of the city’s furry residents.
