Meet Lacey and Luisma Benítez: Platinum Breeders of Merit for American Staffordshire Terriers

Lacey and Luisma Benítez, of LBK American Staffordshire Terriers, have made history as the first and only Platinum Breeders of Merit of the American Staffordshire Terrier. This married couple, who split their time between Spain and St. Augustine, Florida, have dedicated the past 20 years to the breeding and promotion of this beloved breed.

Luisma, a software architect and owner of an IT company, and Lacey, a veterinary technician with a degree in biology, are deeply committed to the health, temperament, and AKC standard of their AmStaffs. Through a rigorous selection process, they ensure that their dogs embody these qualities, producing confident and adaptable puppies ready for their new homes.

But their dedication goes beyond breeding. Lacey serves on the board for the STCA, heads the health committee, and serves as the corresponding secretary for the parent club. They advocate for responsible ownership and lifelong learning for pets, emphasizing training and socialization for a well-rounded companion.

When asked how they got started in breeding dogs, Lacey shared a serendipitous moment while watching Westminster on their new flat screen TV in college. A spur-of-the-moment decision led them to bring home their first American Staffordshire Terrier puppy, setting them on the path to becoming passionate breeders.

Their favorite question to ask potential puppy buyers revolves around their approach to raising children, as this often reflects their ability to provide a caring and structured environment for a terrier puppy. They prioritize responsibility and stability in potential owners, seeking individuals and families with established homes and careers to ensure a nurturing and secure environment for their dogs.

Their dogs actively participate in a variety of AKC sports, showcasing their versatility and intelligence while strengthening the bond between them and their owners. Lacey and Luisma take pride in providing quality, healthy AmStaffs with proper temperament to their community of dog lovers, witnessing the joy and companionship these dogs bring to families.

With a list of achievements including being the top-winning dog in the breed’s history, 44 AKC Best in Show wins, and breeding winners at major shows like the World Dog Show and Westminster Kennel Club, Lacey and Luisma’s breeding program is a testament to their excellence and passion for the American Staffordshire Terrier breed.
