Revealing Herefordshire Dog Breeding Licence Information
Revealed: Number of Registered Dog Breeding Businesses in Herefordshire and Complaints Made Against Them
The recent freedom of information request has shed light on the number of registered dog breeding businesses in Herefordshire, along with the number of dogs they keep and the complaints made against them. According to Herefordshire Council, there are 14 licensed dog breeding businesses in the county with 10 or fewer dogs for breeding purposes, while two businesses are licensed to keep 11 to 25 dogs. Surprisingly, one business holds a license to keep more than 26 dogs for breeding, bringing the total number of registered dogs to 123.
The data also revealed some interesting insights into the highest number of dogs registered on a single valid dog breeding license. Mr. Barclay Julian Rogers takes the lead with 28 dogs, followed by Winston and Sarah Rogers with 18 dogs. Additionally, the council disclosed that there were 16 licensed breeders in the county by the end of 2023, with three new license applications received and two approved that year.
In terms of complaints, one licensed breeder in the county was reported for advertising puppies for sale in another county in 2023. An investigation found that the breeder had moved out of the county, obtained a license from the relevant local authority, and surrendered their Herefordshire Council license.
Dog breeding licenses are crucial for those who breed and sell dogs as a business, including individuals who advertise dogs for sale. The licensing process involves inspections by the council’s team, sometimes accompanied by a vet, to determine the length of the license and star rating based on compliance levels and risk assessment. Businesses can achieve higher star ratings by implementing additional voluntary standards.
