New Research Report Reveals Discrepancy Between Dog Owners’ Intentions and Actions in Maximizing Canine Health
New Report Reveals Discrepancy Between Dog Owners’ Beliefs and Actions in Pet Wellness
Get Joy, a leading dog wellness company, has released a new research report titled “Chasing our Tails: When it Comes to Maximizing our Dog’s Health and Wellness, Are We Just Running in Circles?” The report, based on a national survey of dog parents, sheds light on the paradox between the intentions of dog owners and the actual practices they implement to ensure the longevity of their furry companions.
The survey, conducted by Torfac, focused on 1,000 dog parents aged 18-70+ across all regions, with an equal distribution of male and female respondents. The findings revealed a major disconnect between what dog owners believe to be beneficial for their pets and the actions they take, particularly in the realm of nutrition.
According to the report, while 97% of dog owners acknowledge the impact of their pet’s diet on longevity, only 12% are currently feeding their dogs fresh food. Tom Arrix, founder and CEO of Get Joy, emphasized the harmful effects of processed foods on pets’ health and vitality, drawing from his own experience with his family dog battling lymphoma.
Key findings from the survey include the fact that 94% of adults would increase the longevity of their pets if they could, yet only 53% prioritize feeding their dogs healthy food. Despite high confidence in their dogs’ health, many pet parents lack awareness of the ingredients and nutritional value of the food they provide, leading to a concerning prevalence of obesity among dogs.
Dr. Brett Levitzke, DVM, chief medical officer at VERG Brooklyn and Get Joy veterinary advisor, highlighted the importance of nutrition in canine wellness, noting that even simple changes in diet can have a profound impact on a dog’s overall health.
The report underscores the need for pet parents to prioritize their dogs’ diet and nutrition to ensure their well-being and longevity. With obesity rates on the rise among dogs, it is crucial for owners to make informed decisions about their pets’ food choices to promote a healthier and happier life for their furry friends.
