‘Empty the Shelters’ Event Finds Homes for Over 100 Pets at Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, Foster Families Still Needed

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control Urges Community to Foster Cats and Kittens

Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control (FWACC) recently participated in the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event, where over 100 animals found their forever homes. Despite this success, the shelter is still facing a record-breaking number of kittens in need of homes.

Currently, there are 64 foster families caring for 278 cats and kittens, but FWACC is urging more community members to consider fostering. Director Amy-Jo Sites emphasized the vital role foster families play in saving lives by providing extra love and care to animals before they find their forever homes.

Thanks to a private donor, fostering is completely free and supplies are provided by the shelter. Families are given food, supplies, and medical care for the pets until they are ready to be spayed/neutered and enter the adoption program. The process typically lasts a few weeks to a month.

If you are interested in learning more about the fostering process, you can visit FWACC’s website for more information. By opening your home to a foster pet, you can make a difference in the lives of animals in need.
