Financial Struggles of Pet Owners Highlighted in New Poll by The Harris Poll for the Humane Society of the United States

A recent poll conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of the Humane Society of the United States has shed light on the financial struggles faced by pet owners when it comes to providing veterinary care for their beloved animals. The survey, which included 2042 US adults, revealed that 43% of pet owners have been unable to pay for their pets’ needs at some point due to financial reasons.

According to the Humane Society, approximately 20 million pets in the US are living in poverty with their families, and a staggering 70% of them have never seen a veterinarian. This highlights a concerning lack of access to essential pet care services for many households. Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society, emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges, stating that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of animal companionship regardless of their financial situation.

The poll also uncovered some heartwarming insights, with 89% of respondents agreeing that all pet owners deserve to keep their pets as long as they care for and love them. Additionally, 81% believe that no one should have to give up their pet if they face financial difficulties, and 75% feel that overcrowded shelters need more people to adopt pets, regardless of their socio-economic status.

In response to these findings, the Humane Society has launched an initiative called More Than a Pet, aimed at raising awareness and providing solutions for individuals struggling to afford pet care. The campaign is supported by various partners and celebrity ambassador Jackson Galaxy, who emphasized the importance of keeping families together with their beloved pets.

To help those in need, the Humane Society encourages the public to offer support to individuals experiencing financial crises by donating pet food, supplies, and other essential resources. By coming together as a community, we can make a difference in the lives of both pets and their owners who are facing financial challenges.
