“Paws and Claws: Street Dawgs and Cats Care Fair Provides Much Needed Support for Pets in Avery Park”

The Street Dawgs and Cats Care Fair at Avery Park was a heartwarming event that provided essential care and supplies for pets of those in need. Founder Stephanie Hampton, inspired by her interactions with homeless individuals during Occupy Corvallis, has been organizing the event for 12 years. The fair, which saw an increase in attendance last year, offers vaccinations, deworming, and other necessary treatments biannually.

The event was made possible by the Oregon State University Shelter Medicine Club, which provided supplies through grants and donations. Attendees like Lori Barker and her dog Doobie expressed gratitude for the support from the Corvallis community. Others, like Mikala Guillen with Bear James, shared touching stories of companionship and the impact of the event on their lives.

Susan Moore, a first-time attendee, brought her puppy Loki Lu for his first veterinary care. Floyd Dugan, a lumber worker recovering from heart surgery, spoke about the importance of his dog Bear in his life. Darlene Lindsey, with her pets Sam and Luna, shared how her animals have been her emotional support and saved her from dark times.

Stephanie Hampton emphasized the ongoing need for events like the Street Dawgs and Cats Care Fair to continue providing care for pets that bring comfort and companionship to those in need. The event serves as a reminder of the power of the human-animal bond and the importance of community support.
