Brooklyn-born ice cream brand Van Leeuwen, known for its made-from-scratch dairy and vegan ice cream, has teamed up with fresh, human-grade dog food brand Ollie to launch its first-ever ice cream for dogs. The new offering, a peanut butter and banana recipe, is set to hit Van Leeuwen scoop shops nationwide on May 21, as well as most Petco locations and online at petco.com.
The collaboration between Ollie and Van Leeuwen aims to deliver delicious food made with simple, premium ingredients that contribute to a happy life for both dogs and their owners. The new flavor uses all dog-safe, premium ingredients that meet both brands’ quality standards, ensuring a luxurious vegan ice cream that tastes indulgent and takes into account the uniquely sensitive senses of dogs.
“We truly took the best of both of our worlds and created something we know will bring joy to both dogs and their humans,” said Nicole Sumner, brand director at Ollie. The non-dairy ice cream features swirls of drool-worthy peanut butter and is sweet and salty, getting the bark of approval from taste testers.
To celebrate the launch, Van Leeuwen and Ollie are hosting a series of ice cream truck events in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Diego, offering complimentary tastings of the new ice cream for dogs and free scoops of Van Leeuwen favorites for humans.
Ben Van Leeuwen, Van Leeuwen co-founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “It’s the perfect flavor combo. My dog Hachi and our office dogs taste-tested it and could not get enough of it.” Ollie CEO Nick Stafford emphasized the importance of quality in both ingredients and the overall well-being of dogs, highlighting the collaboration as a way to bring even more enjoyment to beloved pets.
When asked about the possibility of introducing other flavors in the future, Sumner hinted at the potential for more options, stating, “If it sparks joy, it’s never out of the question. No official plans yet, but stay tuned!”
