Mars Petcare US Recalls Dry Dog Food Over Metal Contamination Concerns
Mars Petcare US has issued a voluntary recall of 315 bags of PEDIGREE® Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food in the 44-pound size due to concerns that the products may contain loose metal pieces. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration shared the company’s announcement on its website on Saturday.
The affected products have a best-by date of March 4, 2025, and lot code 410B2TXT02. They were sold in Walmart stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The company is working with Walmart in those states to ensure the affected products are removed from inventory and are no longer sold.
According to the company, the potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag could pose a health hazard to pets. While no reports of injury or illness to pets have been reported regarding the product, Mars Petcare US urges consumers who have purchased the product to stop using it.
Consumers are advised to contact Mars Petcare US consumer care at 1-800-525-5273 for information on initiating a return or if they have any questions. The company’s website also provides additional information for consumers.
Product recalls are issued to address concerns that a product could be harmful in some way, such as contamination or mislabeling. This recall comes in the wake of other recent recalls, including Palmer Candy Company recalling products potentially contaminated with salmonella and the recall of an organic tea product due to pesticide traces.
Mars Petcare US has been contacted for further comment on the recall. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
