States Affected by Dog Food Recall Mapped Out: Keep an Eye Out for Strange Behavior

Recall Alert: Metal Pieces Found in Bags of Pedigree Dog Food Sold at Walmart

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of bags of a popular pet food due to the potential presence of loose metal pieces. The affected product is the “Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Grilled Steak & Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food” produced by Mars Petcare US, with 315 bags of the 44-pound size being subject to the recall.

The recalled product, with a best-by date of March 4, 2025, and a lot code of 410B2TXT02, was sold in Walmart stores in four southern U.S. states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. The packaging of the product is bright yellow with a golden retriever on the front and the company logo in blue rosette with “pedigree” in white lettering.

While the FDA notice did not specify how the metal pieces ended up in the dog food bags, Mars Petcare US confirmed that no reports of injury or illness to pets have been received. Consumers are advised to monitor their pets for any unusual behavior and contact a veterinarian if needed.

Mars Petcare US reassured consumers that no other products are impacted by the recall and that they are working with Walmart to remove the affected products from inventory. Customers with concerns or questions can contact the company’s consumer helpline at 1-800-525-5273.

Food recalls are issued by the FDA when a defect in a food product is detected, with most recalls related to allergens or bacterial contamination. Recalls involving foreign objects like metal are less common but can pose a risk to consumers and their pets. In a similar incident in April, metal shards were found in bulk-buy Creamy Creations ice cream cups distributed in Texas, with no reported injuries.
