Owners Post Sign Allowing People to Give Dog Treats—But Dog Must Follow One Rule

Unique Dog Training Method Goes Viral on TikTok: Owners Leave Treats for Passersby to Encourage Good Behavior

The TikTok video of a unique training method for a barking dog in New Jersey has gone viral, garnering over 600,000 views and 58,800 likes. The video shows a golden retriever named Scout standing inside a fenced-in area, waiting for passersby to follow the instructions on a sign left by his owners.

The sign, accompanied by a cup of treats, asks people to give Scout a treat if he does not bark. TikTok user @megan_catherine captured photos of the sign and Scout, who eagerly awaited his reward. Despite his hopeful eyes, @megan_catherine followed the rules and did not give Scout a treat when he barked as she walked by.

In a follow-up video, the owners updated the sign, asking people to encourage Scout to perform a trick by making a fist and telling him to sit. If he obeyed, he would receive a treat. The sign also allowed people to give treats to their own dogs.

TikTok users have shown support for Scout, with one commenting, “we’re rooting for you scout, get those treats king.” Another praised the training method as “GENIUS.”

For dog owners looking to decrease excessive barking, the American Kennel Club suggests identifying the reason behind the behavior and providing alternative activities to distract the dog. By understanding the root cause of barking and implementing positive reinforcement techniques, owners can help their furry friends become better behaved.
