Rescue Kitten Scar Beats the Odds and Becomes an Instagram Star

Scar the kitten may look like an adorable pirate for Halloween, but his story is far from just a cute costume. This little fighter was found by his mom, marine biologist Savannah Anas, in a remote area with a life-threatening eye infection.

Anas recalls the moment she found Scar, saying, “We got there to find that he had both eyes. While one eye was completely fine, the other was so incredibly swollen and infected. It was leaking puss like a fountain.” Anas, with her background in biology, knew that the infection was close to Scar’s brain and could be fatal.

Despite weighing only 8.5 oz. pre-operation and facing uncertain odds, Scar underwent surgery and came out victorious. Now, at 8 weeks old, he sports a stylish handmade eyepatch to aid in the healing process. His compromised vision doesn’t slow him down, as he accompanies Anas on hikes, trips to the beach, and even games of hide-n-seek in the forest.

Anas, who never expected to own a cat, has embraced her role as Scar’s mom. She says, “He wanted to live and I needed to help him. I’m so glad I found him. I became a mom overnight. It’s very fun, but it’s a lot of work. He’s so fantastic. It’s so rewarding.”

Scar’s journey to recovery and his adventurous spirit have captured the hearts of many, leading to his Instagram account, @kitten_with_the_eyepatch, where followers can keep up with his daily escapades. This little miracle cat is proof that with love and determination, anything is possible.
