Great Falls Dog Training Club Celebrates Agility Trials and Sportsmanship

The Great Falls Dog Training Club is proving that agility trials are more than just telling a dog to sit and stay. Handlers and their furry companions are showcasing their skills and teamwork in a sport that requires dedication and training.

Handler Julie Chapman, who has been participating in agility trials for 15 years, traveled from Missoula to Kings Arena outside Great Falls to compete in the event. She emphasized the bond between handlers and their dogs, as well as the camaraderie among participants.

At the recent trials, the master agility champion was honored with a cake and trophy, and the second annual sportsmanship award was presented in memory of Lex Van Tighem, a beloved member of the club who passed away from Alzheimer’s. The award recognizes individuals who embody the values and spirit of Van Tighem.

Joanie Carl, a member of the Agility Committee, spoke fondly of Van Tighem and the impact she had on the club. The sportsmanship award serves as a tribute to her memory and the positive influence she had on those around her.

The Great Falls Dog Training Club offers classes for those interested in getting involved in agility trials. For more information on the club and available classes, visit their website.
