Free Dog Training Offered at Proteo Park in Kayseri, Turkey

Park Named After Mexican Rescue Dog Proteo Trains 45 Dogs for Free

In a heartwarming tribute to the Mexican rescue dog Proteo, who tragically passed away while conducting search and rescue operations in Türkiye, a park has been dedicated to his memory where 45 dogs are now receiving free training.

Proteo, a seasoned search and rescue dog who had served for 10 years in Mexico, arrived in Türkiye with a team of rescuers following the devastating earthquakes that struck the region. Despite falling ill during the search efforts, Proteo played a crucial role in locating bodies and survivors, earning the admiration and gratitude of many.

To honor his legacy, the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality named a dog training course at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan National Garden after Proteo. The 590-square-meter course, equipped with various play and training areas, is managed by veterinarians and trainers who provide care, feeding, and vaccinations for the dogs, along with training on socialization, desensitization, and obedience.

Cüneyt Canıdemir, head of the Afforestation and Maintenance Branch of the Parks and Gardens Department, shared that Proteo’s team from Mexico had made a significant impact in Türkiye during the earthquake response. The training course named after Proteo has been well-received, with 45 owned dogs benefiting from the free training sessions held every Sunday.

Dog trainer Burak Safa Bayram highlighted the progress made in training, noting that competitions have helped enhance the skills of both dogs and their owners. Participants like Çağlar Danacı expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to train their dogs in a supportive and engaging environment, with Danacı sharing how the course has helped his once antisocial dog become more confident and sociable.

The dedication of the Proteo Dog Training Course serves as a touching tribute to a brave and dedicated rescue dog, inspiring others to continue his legacy of service and compassion towards animals in need.
