Forestview Seventh Graders Learn About Pet Care at Pine Shadows

Forestview Middle School students had a unique and hands-on learning experience at Pine Shadows, where they were able to interact with pets and learn about their care. The students participated in six different learning stations, including dog health and first aid, dog obedience, puppy imprinting, dog obstacle course, hunting dog training, and a tour of the boarding and grooming facility.

Mark and Sophie Haglin, the owners of Pine Shadows, offered these learning stations to the students to provide them with practical experience in dealing with pets in their families. Each station was manned by a group of employees and volunteers who guided the students through the activities. The goal was to show the students the importance of training pets and the difference it makes in their behavior.

The students had the opportunity to interact with various dogs, including participating in an obstacle course, learning obedience commands, and observing hunting dog training. They also learned about the puppy imprinting process and the role of a small animal veterinarian. The hands-on experience allowed the students to see the progression from early training to the finished product in the field.

Mark Haglin emphasized the importance of making the right thing easy for pets to do and the wrong thing difficult, a theme that was present in each of the learning stations. The students were able to witness the value of training in making dogs better family members and well-behaved companions.

Overall, the day at Pine Shadows provided Forestview Middle School students with a unique and educational experience that allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of pet care and training. The hands-on activities and interactions with the dogs made for a memorable and engaging learning opportunity for the students.
