Turkey pays tribute to Mexican rescue dog by naming training ground after it

Kayseri Dog Training Park Named After Mexican Rescue Dog Proteo
The heroic efforts of Proteo, a Mexican rescue dog who played a crucial role in search and rescue operations in Türkiye following devastating earthquakes, have been honored in a heartwarming way. The Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality has named a dog training park in central Türkiye after Proteo, in recognition of his invaluable service.
Proteo, who had served with the Mexican Ministry of National Defense for ten years, helped locate 29 deceased individuals and three survivors during the search and rescue operations in Türkiye. His dedication and bravery have left a lasting impact on the community, prompting officials to pay tribute to his legacy by naming the training ground after him.
The park offers free training services every Sunday for 45 owned dogs, providing essential care, vaccinations, and training in socialization, desensitization, and obedience. Dog owners have expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to train and bond with their pets in a supportive environment.
Cuneyt Canidemir, an official with the municipality, emphasized the significance of honoring Proteo’s contributions, stating, “Naming this park after him is a tribute to his invaluable service.” The park serves as a reminder of the lifesaving work carried out by search and rescue dogs globally, highlighting the impact that these dedicated animals have in times of crisis.
Despite Proteo’s passing during the search operations, his memory lives on through the park named in his honor. The legacy of this brave rescue dog serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for all those who continue to work tirelessly to save lives in the face of adversity.
